Come and make history! Be part of the first-ever community Mardi Gras event in Hong Kong! Everyone is welcome to take part in the first Standard Chartered Arts in the Park – Mardi Gras! Inspired by the story of "Gulliver’s Travels", the event will have 6 hours of back-to-back dance, music and circus performances, over 20 arts and crafts stalls for the public to create original carnival-inspired artworks, 6 interactive performing arts workshops and it all culminates in a massive procession around the park – don't miss out!

Since 2001, Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited has supported YAF’s biggest annual community arts event – Arts in the Plaza. Every year, this event attracts over 10,000 young people and their families to experience the fun of the visual and performing arts.Inspired by international arts festivals and carnivals such as the Notting Hill Carnival, the Brazilian Carnival and New Orleans Mardi Gras, Standard Chartered Arts in the Park will be a festive outdoor event to celebrate the vitality and diversity of the Hong Kong community.

Event highlights

• Thematic parade: From July to Oct 2008, 500 students from 20 secondary and primary schools have been working with renowned artists to create a variety of costumes, flags, headdresses, choreographed dance routines and giant puppets. • 300 hand-dyed silk flags made by 900 students from 30 local schools will decorate the venue.

• 3 giant puppets (each 12 feet high) created by professional theatre groups and 5 by students will be on display throughout the day on the lawn.

• 40 performing youth groups will perform on stage throughout the event from 10am to 6pm.

• 20 free art stalls will be opened to the public so that they can participate in the creation of their own accessories and join the parade.
