In this 3-hour workshop, participants create as much movement as possible, using their individual and personal experience as source material.

Inspired by the innovations of dance artists from the 1960's onwards, they devote time to constructing movement phrases with the same intelligence as one would normally devote to constructing sentences.
Mixing ballet/modern vocabularies and pop culture routines, folk dances and 'everyday' movement, the dance reflect themes that exist in personal lives. Working in partners and sharing the work with the group, they investigate what it means to dance with and for each other and what is specific to dance as a means to communicate. Movement phrases are sketched out and partnered with unexpected sound and music, challenge their compositional habits with chance procedures, incorporate gesture, pedestrian movement and text, to cultivate individuality and an inquisitive attitude towards dance making.
Artists Bio
Peter Flaherty and Jennie Liu have been creating media art and performance professionally for the past eight and five years, respectively. Based in Brooklyn, NY, the pair have recently been offered organizational support to develop their new integrated-media performance - synthesizing theater, dance, live video, music and cinema - in Hong Kong from April 1 to May 5, 2008.
