Starbucks' dedication in supporting community arts and cultural activities is proven by being a continuous devotee and sponsor of Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation Ltd's (YAF) art events. Bean Art Workshop is another successful partnership between Starbucks and YAF.
The workshop aimed at encouraging young people to create unique public mosaic art pieces using coffee beans. The artwork will be permanently installed at Starbucks Coffee Shop in Kin On Mansion, Taikoo Shing for patrons to enjoy and hopefully inspire young people to create.
YAF’s project artist, Karen Pow, was joined by 30 Starbucks partners (employees) in August to facilitate this project with 40 young people aged 7 to 15 from Eastern District. Together they made mosaic art pieces using 4 different types of coffee beans. The coffee beans’ unique colours represent their different roasting stages which coordinated well with carefully hand-picked glass tiles. A series of symbolic and ethnic mosaic art pieces are conceived to celebrate the wonderful world of nature.
