Following her 3 month residency as Bloomberg Emerging Artist 2008, Phoebe Hui will showcase her work in an exhibition at the Hong Kong Arts Centre this October.

Language serves as a vehicle for thought with society relying on words to help define, categorise and understand the world we live in. Whilst words function as a map for reality, the concepts behind them are intangible and meaning is created through a shared knowledge of definitions, linguistics and semantics. However, through her Sonic Art installations, Phoebe challenges the audience to consider other ways of creating meaning from words and sentences.

By exploring letter patterns and sentence structure through sound and visual interpretations, her work demonstrates that perhaps there is a hidden world of interpretation encapsulated in language, one that is more instinctive than learned.
