SWIRE PUBLIC ART PROJECT IN WAN CHAI
Venue : YAF Studio
Enquiry : yan@hkyaf.com

Sponsored by the Swire Properties Limited, YAF is inviting a group of teenagers to design a unique pattern for decorating exterior wall of the Star Street Refuse Collection Point. Through participating in model painting workshops, each participant will work on a 3D scaled model and learn how to create a balance between the aesthetic beauty and functionality, whilst keeping the surrounding environment in consideration.

Registration: yan@hkyaf.com

Piet Mondrian is a famous Dutch painter who is known for his modern abstract paintings. In his paintings, he uses the simplest combinations of straight lines, right angles, primary colours, and black and white to create startlingly simple but brilliant works of art. His work possesses an extreme form of purity that embodies the artist’s spiritual belief in a harmonious cosmos. The participants will learn how to incorporate the style of Mondrian’s geometric abstract painting to decorate a 3-dimensional model. One of the student’s design will be selected and used for painting the exterior walls of the Star Street Refuse Collection Point.

Public art is generally created by professional artists for decorating specific public spaces and locations. In Hong Kong it is commonly found in libraries, parks, MTR stations and shopping centres. YAF believes that when facilitated by professional artists, young people can take part in public art creation to create attractive and colourful designs that reflect the youth’s ideas and dynamic energy.
