X’tra Special Arts Project 2024 ─ Recruiting School for Percussion Workshops
Since 2011, our X’tra Special Arts Project has provided free, high-quality arts activities for students with special needs. Thanks to the enthusiastic support of local schools with special needs, we are now launching a new artist-in-residence programme – encouraging self-expression and showcasing students’ talents through hands-on percussion workshops.
Between April and July, artists from Museek Studio will visit participating schools to help students make and use their own asalato shakers. These traditional West African maracas-style instruments, made from two small bead-filled gourds connected with a short cord, are simple to play, produce a rich variety of rhythms and percussive effects, and help train students’ hand-eye coordination.
The X’tra Special Arts Project is free of charge and open to special-needs schools. Places are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis. If you are interested in joining us, please download and fill in the application form here. All applications will receive an individual response. For enquiries, please contact email@example.com.
