What is the most memorable artwork you have created?
Forest in the City, a series of large-scale animal sculptures that I made from discarded plywood in 2014. The works were shown in Kui Yuan Gallery, Guangzhou and it was my first major solo exhibition in China.
What do you do if you’re looking for inspiration?
I read books, watch movies or re-read my diaries.
If you weren’t an artist, what would you do for living?
I would be a businessperson running a successful social enterprise, making a living and contributing to the society at the same time.
If you could witness any event past, present or future, what would it be?
I would like to witness the Cultural Revolution and experience that period of fanaticism that took hold of the country.
Do you have any advice to youngsters who are passionate about visual arts?
Art is about pouring your soul into different media. If you can maintain your enthusiasm for life that’s when create work that other people can connect with.
Who is your favourite artist?
The American sculptor Alexander Calder. I love the curves and sense of space in his work. It inspired the colour tones and the three-dimensional aspect of my artworks.
