What qualities do you seek when you audition for actors?
We are always attracted by enthusiastic and passionate energy! When auditioning, we especially look for actors who are confident, proactive, focused, thoroughly prepared and are open to taking on direction and feedback. As a production cast requires a lot of teamwork, we also make sure we cast actors who are kind and keen to collaborate with others.
What’s the audition process like?
Punctuality is essential. Make sure you arrive at least 15 minutes before your audition time to complete the registration. Arriving early also gives you time to settle your nerves and warm up. To warm up, you can try repeating some tongue twisters, such as “red leather, yellow leather” or “unique New York”. When it is your turn to perform, introduce yourself briefly and clearly and show the panel your passion and confidence. Then we will ask you to perform your memorised monologue. When you aren’t performing, we expect you to give your 100% attention to the person performing and give them the respect and focus that they deserve.
What would you say to the actors ahead of the audition?
All stage performances are collaborative productions that involve people with various talents who play essential roles behind the scenes and on stage. Treasure any role that you are offered – they are all of equal importance. Even seemingly minor roles can help you accumulate valuable stage experience so that one day you can take the lead! If we don’t cast you this time, keep trying. It doesn’t mean you aren’t good – it just means we don’t have a suitable role for you in this show. The more you audition, the higher your chances are of getting a role!
