Illustrator for the Jockey Club “Project Silver” Intergenerational Arts Project 2021: Colouring App
How did you become a professional illustrator?
I worked as a typography designer for a free-of-charge magazine at my first job. At the time, one of my colleagues from editorial invited me to create some illustrations for a spread page. And illustration gradually became my profession.
What was the most challenging illustration you created for the Jockey Club “Project Silver” Intergenerational Arts Project 2021: Colouring App?
The water rationing illustration was most challenging because of the number of characters involved.

Do you have a favourite elderly family member you enjoy talking to? What is s/he like?
That would be my deceased grandmother. She lived through the war when she was young and the experience made her a very strong person.
Can you share some tips or advice with youth participants joining the Jockey Club “Project Silver” Intergenerational Arts Project 2021: Colouring App: Illustration Workshop on how to communicate with the elderly?
Be a good listener. Most elderlies will enjoy sharing their personal stories with you.
What makes a successful illustration? What does it take to create great illustrations?
Aside from aesthetics, a successful illustration has to be able to resonate with the viewers. Pay attention to the small things in life and let your heart guide you.
What is the most unexpected thing that drawing has brought you?
I have encountered many unexpected work opportunities and experiences. One time, a client of mine had me flown to Milan to complete a job.
If you weren’t an illustrator, what would you be?
A regular graphic designer.
What would you say to your 70-year-old self in the future?
You only live once. Be brave and give it a go.
Who is your favourite artist?
I’m a fan of the Japanese illustrator Katsuya Terada because his brushwork and visual compositions are remarkably outstanding.
