Experiment, take creative risks and develop your voice as a director.
The Director’s Lab is an intensive two-weekend programme for emerging directors and theatre-makers, led by HKYAF founder and theatre director Lindsey McAlister.
Over four days, participants use physical theatre practices, visual storytelling and experimentation to explore how bodies, space, rhythm and ensemble work can shape compelling performances. Participants also work directly with young performers to devise and direct an original short piece and present it to friends and family in a studio showcase. Participants who complete the programme are eligible for a stipend of HK$5,000 to HK$7,000 (depending on experience), and may also be invited to direct future HKYAF projects.
Eligibility:
.Open to applicants aged 18 or above. Priority will be given to emerging artists with a strong theatre or performance background.
.Participants must be fluent and comfortable communicating in English as the programme will be conducted in English.
How to apply
Submit the application form with an introduction video (2 minutes or less) telling us:
.A little about yourself and your creative experience
.Why you want to take part
.What you hope to gain from the experience
.How The Director’s Lab could support your future creative career
*Please provide a shareable link for your submitted video (YouTube, Google Drive, Dropbox) and name the video with your full name.
