Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation - The Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Arts Biennale 2013 Handcraft-making: Public Workshop Series

Complex technologies are part of our everyday lives. Although they make many routine aspects of our lives more convenient, they also reduce our need to learn a number of simple skills that can also be a source of great enjoyment. Through this free workshop series, participants will learn how to create their own spatial installations, cardboard sculptures or block prints – becoming artists for a day or using the skills they learn to create their own artwork at home.

Workshop content - Pok Fu Lam Village
At the start of the workshop, a YAF tour guide will take participants through the streets and alleys of Pok Fu Lam Village to view 8 sets of artwork in various locations. Participants will also learn interesting historical and cultural facts about the village and have a chance to appreciate its unique character. After the tour, participants will be introduced to the art of block printing and make their own print to take home.

Workshop content - Tuen Mun Park
In this workshop, participants will take inspiration from the park, and learn to transform images of reptiles into cardboard sculptures. Lok Fu Plaza (Food Square, 1/F, Zone A)

After viewing the work in this exhibition on the theme of living space, the public will be encouraged to create their own installation work on the same theme using small boxes and an architectural human figure. 10am–9pm, every day during the exhibition. No registration required.

Exchange – Public Talk
In this public talk, local artists and art groups will share their experiences of organising community arts programmes. They will discuss how to think out of the box, and highlight the importance of being innovative while remaining sensitive to social issues and accommodating the needs of the community.

Between 2024 and 2026, a series of fun, enriching visual and performing art experiences will take place across Hong Kong, engaging over 400 youngsters aged 4 to 18 living in small group homes and foster care services.
