LIVING ART PROJECTS AT OI!
The former Clubhouse of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club and the staff quarters of the Government Supplies Department in North Point is being refurbished as an art space focusing on young artists and community engagement – the art space "Oi!" The art space will provide exhibition and educational facilities for young art practitioners and the general public.
YAF is delighted to have been invited by the Art Promotion Office to organise a series of workshops involving local artists and the public in the hands-on creation of green artwork to decorate the metal fences at the new art space. Three sets of green art installations will be created by local artists Violet Shum, Wyan's group, Monti Lai and Ivy Chan. Violet Shum will lead a group to create a giant woven sunflower sculpture – 8m wide and 2m tall – using dry weeds and a metal wire fence. Wyan's group will create a "Green Dock" installation where visitors can "plug themselves in" and enjoy the sense of nature.
We are now recruiting participants to join Monti Lai and Ivy Chan and help create our third set of artwork. This piece will mobilise 100–150 people in the creation of a vertical garden using plants and hundreds of recycled plastic bottles. The workshop is free of charge and suitable for participants aged 10 or above. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
